(NEWS)IMPACT OF STANDARD GAUGE RAILWAY

One of the manifestos of Jubilee government when it was being voted in was building of Standard gauge railway which was to facilitate transport.

It was to meant to facilitate transportation of goods & passangers from Mombasa to Nairobi & in few years time connect various cities in the country.

Since it was constructed  it has come with various impact both negative & positive. I will go through some of it impacts briefly.

Decongesting Mombasa city. Since it's construction there has been notable decrease in the number of trucks in county of Mombasa. Now few  trucks access the port through docks & shimanzi.

Tourism promotion.
There has been reduced cost of carrying passengers to and from Mombasa. Hence tourism has been given a major boost

Environmental protection.
With number of trucks reduced the environment has been preserved since there has been green gas reduction which is usually emitted by these trucks.

Closure of trucking business.
Trucks business is declining with time since most of the cargos are now Carried by standard gauge railway

Job losses
People who were employed to work in truck sectors and private buses are now losing their jobs since most people prefer to use Standard gauge railway as their means of transport.

Mombasa county revenue is declining since the construction of standard gauge railway
This is because the bus & truck owners who had be given license to work In the City are now closing down their business & shifting to other areas.
